Day 20: Zaragoza to the Pyrenees (Torla)

The arable landscape continued in this vein for many miles.

Now this is a haystack (the top of my head came up to the top of the second bale up)!

Yet, a little further on I found this. What a waste!

The soil was becoming increasingly challenging. Some areas were becoming bordered by trees with islands seperating strips of wheat.

As I moved off the plains growing wheat was obviously becoming increasingly challenging. Small pockets of cultivation were etched out of otherwise rough ground. There was no doubt the absolute best was being made out of this land.

After driving round Zaragoza I turned off the main road at Villaneuve de Gallego towards Castejon de Valdejasa. The road climbed higher. Near the top of the Montes de Castejon I noticed apparently dead trees everywhere. This link explains the fires that ravaged the area.

Then down the other side I got my first glimpse of the Pyrenees on the horizon.

Driving past Huesca I turned right at Biescas onto the mountain road heading towards the Parque Nacional de Ordessa. It was impossible to stop to take any photos. The road twisted and turned endlessly until I arrived at Torla at the foot of Mondarruego close to Monte Perdido.

I set myself up at C Rio Ara and disappeared into Torla village for a coffee and snack. There were a large number of very well dressed walkers here and clothes shops to match.

351 miles today.
